Ruslan Shamal Announces Candidacy for New York State Senate

Staten Island and Brooklyn Radio Host and Small Business Owner to Bring Common Sense Back to Albany

NEW YORK – Ruslan Shamal today announced his candidacy for New York State Senate, pledging to fight for public safety, affordability, and working families across Staten Island and Brooklyn.

“I came to this country from Belarus with nothing but a belief that hard work should matter,” said Shamal. “I chose Staten Island to raise my family for the same reasons so many do – stability, safety, and community. But too many families today feel ignored by politicians in Albany who don’t understand their struggles. That needs to change.”

Shamal’s personal story embodies the American dream. After arriving in the United States alone from communist Belarus, he started at the bottom working blue-collar jobs, built a successful small business, and earned the trust of thousands of listeners as a longtime radio host. Today, he lives in Staten Island and works in Brooklyn, giving him firsthand experience with the challenges facing both sides of the district.

A Platform Built on Common Sense

Shamal’s campaign focuses on four key priorities:

Fighting for Affordability – Pushing back against rising property taxes and utility costs that make it harder for families to stay in their homes

Protecting Homeowners – Opposing City of Yes mandates that override local voices and threaten neighborhood character and quality of life

Restoring Public Safety – Backing the NYPD, holding repeat offenders accountable, and putting victims and families first

Supporting Parents and Education – Restoring parental involvement in schools, backing school choice, and keeping divisive politics out of the classroom

“Staten Island and Brooklyn deserve a State Senator who stands with families, protects neighborhoods, and keeps our communities affordable,” Shamal added. “I’m running to bring that voice to Albany.”
